This is an application to submit a proposal for an exhibition at Bountiful Davis Art Center in 2023. The mission of the BDAC Exhibitions Program is to:

  • Provide the Utah community and greater public with easy access to high-quality art exhibitions
  • Provide a platform for sharing the artistic expressions of emerging and established artists
  • Enhance public understanding of the value and purposes of art
  • Nurture innovation in arts and culture

​DEADLINE All applications must be complete and submitted online no later than 11:59 PM July 31, 2022. We strongly recommend using this online form to apply, however, we will accept mailed proposals under extenuating circumstances. Mailed proposals must be postmarked no later than July 25, 2022. DOCUMENTATION OF ART Please submit documentation of art via this online form. Photos should be high-resolution images (approx. 1920 pixels at the longest side and at least 72 dpi) of work, which may include detail views. Documentation must be of work completed in the past THREE years*, never before exhibited at BDAC, and must either show work intended for the exhibit or be a fair representation of work to be completed. Professional-quality documentation is encouraged. If you have technical issues, please contact us to make appropriate arrangements. *BDAC allows submissions including art older than three years in the case of a retrospective or exhibit of art by a deceased artist.

  • INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS

Individual artists may submit up to ten (10) photos of work, including details.

  • GROUP EXHIBITIONS

Applicants proposing exhibitions of two or more artists may submit up to fifteen (15) photos of work, including details.   


ARTIST STATEMENT A statement of up to 500 words relating to the submitted work is required. This might include topics such as the artist's purpose or concept, materials, process, subject matter, as well as artists, theories, and discourse that influence the work.   


DESCRIPTION OF EXHIBITION Please logistically and physically describe the intended exhibition. Indicate whether work submitted will be in the exhibition or if it represents the type of work to be exhibited. Explain physical, spatial, and technological needs. Artists should plan to provide their own special equipment such as monitors and speakers. Artists are not guaranteed to be placed in their requested area, but it helps the committee plan. 400 words or fewer.   


BIO/CV/RESUME In a single PDF file, submit a biography and/or CV or resume for all artists applying. Limit biographies to 200 words or fewer. *Tip: InDesign or Word can export documents as PDFs.   


NOTIFICATION Selected artists will be notified by Sept 1, 2022. At that time artists will be informed of the dates of their exhibition, generally 4-6 weeks in duration. Please let us know if there are dates in 2023 during which the applicant CANNOT exhibit.   


INSTALLATION AND HANDLING Art should arrive at BDAC ready to hang or install. D-rings and wire are preferred for wall art. Please arrange to bring art into the gallery without requiring assistance from BDAC staff. BDAC typically arranges and installs the art. If the art has special installation or layout needs, the artist or a representative may install the work and/or should make prior installation arrangements with BDAC.  BDAC has a limited budget to assist with out-of-state shipping costs for 2023, but cannot guarantee we can assist with all exhibitions. Please plan to cover all costs of delivering art to BDAC and costs of return.   


NOTE: Submitted work that differs markedly from the photo entries without clear explanation may be rejected. Physical samples of work in person will not be accepted. Work displayed previously at BDAC will not be accepted. Art must be original; reproductions and giclées will not be accepted. BDAC reserves the right at any time to decline to display any art that is damaged, unprepared for installation, excessively fragile, dangerous, or which fails to meet our standards of quality. All exhibited art is protected by insurance while under the care of BDAC. The artist(s) or curator may list the art for sale. The commission is 65% to the artist, 35% to BDAC.

This online form is the application for the Artist-in-Residence at Bountiful Davis Art Center for fall 2022. Our program includes the following:

  • 24/7 access to a private studio space
  • Access to our facility including use of our kiln
  • A solo exhibition after the duration of your residency
  • Opportunity to do an outreach event such as teach a workshop, give a lecture or curate a panel discussion

ELIGIBILITY
We invite all professional artists residing in the state of Utah may apply for consideration. Professional artists working in visual media such as drawing, ceramic, painting, printmaking, mixed-media, video, and fiber may apply. Applicants must not be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate coursework during the period of the residency. This residency is intended to facilitate experimentation and change to an artist’s work, practice, and ideas.

LETTER OF INTENT
Please describe a project you would like to pursue or a topic you would like to research during your residency. Explain how program participation will affect your practice, specifically how it will help you experiment and expand your work/ideas. Please limit your response to 350 words.

BIO/CV/RESUME/REFERENCES
In a single PDF file, submit a biography, CV or resume, and list three references with contact information. Limit bios to no more than 200 words.

NOTIFICATION
Selected artists will be notified by July 17, 2022. The residency will take place in the fall of 2022 and winter of 2023.


PLEASE NOTE: BDAC reserves the right at any time to decline to display any art that is damaged, unprepared for installation, excessively fragile, dangerous, or which fails to meet our standards of quality or community. All exhibited art will be covered by insurance while under the care of BDAC. Exhibited artwork may be listed for sale with a commission of 65% to the artist, and 35% to BDAC.
